Varnish is a web app accelerator platform, which caches info for faster access. It’s sometimes referred to as a caching HTTP reverse proxy too and it works between a web server and its users. When a visitor loads a given page, the content is requested by the web browser, and then the web server handles this browser request and delivers the requested information. If Varnish is activated for a website, it will cache the pages at the first request and if the user opens a cached page again, the content will be delivered by the accelerator platform and not by the web server. The accelerated speed is a result of the substantially faster response time that the Varnish platform offers as compared to any server software. At the same time, this does not mean that the users will continue seeing the same content over and over again, as any update on any of the web pages is reflected in the content that the Varnish platform keeps in its system memory.
Varnish in Cloud Web Hosting
In case you host your websites in a cloud web hosting account with us, you’ll be able to activate Varnish with several mouse clicks from your hosting Control Panel. The content caching platform comes as an upgrade with all our shared plans and you can select how many sites will use it and the total storage space that will be available for the cached content. The two upgradeable features in the Upgrades section of the Control Panel are the number of instances and the amount of memory and they are not linked directly to each other, so you can choose whether you need lots of memory for a single large-size site or less memory for several smaller ones. You can unleash the full potential of the Varnish platform if the websites use a dedicated IP. With the Control Panel, you can swiftly start/reboot/discontinue an instance, clear the cached contents individually for each website which uses the Varnish platform or check an elaborate log.
Varnish in Semi-dedicated Servers
Varnish is a feature, which is included as standard with all semi-dedicated servers that we offer and you can use it for load distribution purposes. It is available in your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The content caching platform comes with 64 MB of system memory for cached content storing purposes and you can use it with any site that you host in the semi-dedicated server account. In case you’re in need of more, you can increase the memory quota. The memory itself is available in increments of 32 MB through the Upgrades section of the Control Panel. The very same Upgrades section will allow you to add more instances as well, if you’d like to use the Varnish platform with more Internet sites. The two upgrades can be ordered separately – you can cache the content of one single large-size site or use a number of sites with the default memory quota. You can take full advantage of the Varnish platform in case you use a dedicated IP and you can get one with your semi-dedicated server plan as well. The Hepsia Control Panel will grant you complete control over the platform and, with no more than one mouse click, you will be able to clear the cached contents, to see a log or to reboot an instance.
Varnish in VPS Servers
You can take advantage of Varnish with any of our VPS server plans at no additional fee, since the content caching platform is pre-installed and is included by default. The only precondition is that the virtual machine must come with the Hepsia Control Panel, through which you will be able to activate Varnish for any of your sites with just a few clicks. Each Virtual Private Server package comes with a different amount of memory for content caching purposes, but you will get at least several hundred MB, which is quite enough even for several traffic-heavy sites. Soon after you enable the Varnish platform, it will begin caching the content that your site visitors request, so you will notice the substantially faster web page loading speeds and the reduced load on your Virtual Private Server in no time. The Varnish caching platform will permit you to use a less pricey virtual server, since you won’t require that many resources to sustain the proper operation of your Internet sites even if you have large-scale sites with lots of visitors. Optimal results are achieved if the sites that use the Varnish caching platform use also a dedicated IP address.
Varnish in Dedicated Servers
In case you order a dedicated server with the Hepsia Control Panel, you’ll get the Varnish data caching platform at no additional fee and you’ll have complete control over it through an extremely intuitive interface – you will be able to start, to remove or to restart an instance, to see an exhaustive system log, to clear the cache for any Internet site and much more. Varnish will have several gigabytes of virtual memory at its disposal, so even if you have traffic-heavy Internet sites with an enormous number of visitors, you’ll notice the much better web page loading times and the reduced load on the dedicated machine. This will happen soon after you begin using the Varnish platform, since it will need some time to cache the pages that users open. You can take full advantage of the platform’s capabilities if the websites that are using it use also a dedicated IP address, but considering the fact that your server comes with a few IP addresses by default, you will not have to pay anything on top of the monthly fee for the server itself.
