When you register a domain, you have to provide an authentic address, email account and telephone number as per the policy approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. This information, though, is not kept only by the registrar company, but is visible to the general public on WHOIS lookup sites as well, so anybody can see your information and lots of individuals may not be satisfied with this. As a consequence, plenty of companies have come up with the so-called Whois Privacy Protection service, which hides the domain name registrant’s info and upon a WHOIS check, people will see the details of the registrar company, not those of the domain owner. This service is also called Whois Privacy Protection or Privacy Protection, but all these terms refer to one and the same service. Nowadays, most of the Top-Level Domains around the world allow Whois Privacy Protection to be added, but there are still country-specific extensions that don’t support the service.
